TROUT RELEASE
The Iowa DNR will release trout in Discovery Pond. Trout stamps are required (see Iowa Fishing
Regulation booklet). All Iowa fi shing rules and regulations apply and will be enforced.

HUNTER EDUCATION ONLINE FIELD DAY
This fi eld day is for anyone who has completed one of the two following Iowa DNR approved online
hunter education courses; www.HunterExam.com. or www.hunter-ed.com/Iowa/. After completing an
online course you must print your voucher and bring it with you to the fi eld day. Registration is required
for the fi eld day at www.iowadnr.gov/training. Online hunter education courses and fi eld days are
recommended for ages 16 and older.

EARTH DAY CELEBRATION 2013
Local businesses and organizations will be on hand with ideas on green living and to
celebrate our community. There will also be activities for kids.

33RD ANNUAL KIDS FISHING SEMINAR
Come learn the basics of fi shing. This annual event is geared toward elementary-aged kids, but all
ages are welcome. T-shirts for the fi rst 100 kids in K-5th grades to preregister, tackle packets for all
participants, and lots of door prizes! Registration forms will be available at the Environmental Learning
Center and on our website at www.MuscatineCountyConservation.com beginning May 15.

6TH ANNUAL KIDS FISHING DERBY
Come to the Kids Fishing Seminar then put your newfound fi shing knowledge to use and participate in
the Kids Fishing Derby. Prizes awarded in several fi sh categories and age groups. Registration will open
immediately after the fi shing seminar ends.

ARCHERY TRY-IT!
Come learn the basics of archery as taught by the National Archery in the Schools program. Safety and
shooting techniques will be covered. Participants will choose the 4:00-5:00 or 5:00-6:00 time slot.

CANOE/KAYAK TRY-IT!
Ages three and older can come out and explore Chicken Creek by canoe or kayak.
Basic instruction will be offered for those with no, or limited, prior experience. All
equipment will be provided.

Summer Camps for Kids
Summer Nature Camp-General Information
• Preregistration is required. Forms are available at the Environmental Learning
Center or at www.MuscatineCountyConservation.com
• All camps must have a minimum of 8 participants to be held.
• All camps meet at the Environmental Learning Center unless noted otherwise.
• Optional Nature Camp T-shirts are available for $6.50 if registration is received
before May 24.
• No refunds are given unless the camp is cancelled.
• Wear old clothes that can get wet and muddy.
• Wear old shoes that can get wet and muddy, NO FLIP FLOPS!, old sneakers
work best.

KESTREL CAMP
kids who just completed 2nd or 3rd grade
$30.00/session Optional T-shirt-$6.50 maximum 16/session
Activities include outdoor exploration, hiking, fi shing, canoeing, games and crafts.
Session 1 June 18, 19, 20 1:00-4:00 p.m.
Meets at the Environmental Learning Center. We’ll explore Discovery Park and Fuller Park.
Session 2 July 9, 10 9:00 a.m.-12:00 noon & July 11 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Meets at the Environmental Learning Center days 1 & 2 and Saulsbury day 3. We’ll explore Wildcat Den,
Sand Pits, and Saulsbury (evening).
Session 3 July 30, 31, August 1 9:00 a.m.-12:00 noon
Meets at the Environmental Learning Center. We’ll explore Saulsbury, Cedar Bluffs, Mad Creek, and
Riverfront.

OTTER CAMP
kids who just completed 4th or 5th grade
$30.00 Optional T-shirt-$6.50 maximum 16
Activities include outdoor exploration, hiking, fi shing, canoeing, games and crafts.
Session 1 July 16 & 18 9:00 a.m.-12:00 noon & July 17 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Meets at the Environmental Learning Center days 1 & 3 and Saulsbury day 2. We’ll explore Big Sand
Mound, Saulsbury (evening), and Sand Pits.

CANOEING/KAYAKING
kids who just completed 5th-8th grades Optional T-shirt-$6.50
Learn to Paddle June 14 9:00 a.m.-12:00 noon $10.00
Learn to Paddle July 12 9:00 a.m.-12:00 noon $10.00
We’ll meet at Chicken Creek at Saulsbury to learn water safety and basic strokes then put the canoes and
kayaks in Chicken Creek and practice rescue and paddling techniques.
Cedar River Float Trip July 12 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. $20.00
We’ll meet at the Learning Center then board the bus for Jack Shuger Memorial Park in Moscow where
we will put the canoes and kayaks in and fl oat to the Saulsbury Bridge Recreation Area then catch the bus
back to the Learning Center. Along the way we will stop to explore sandbars and eat lunch. Bring a sack
lunch.
Sand Pits Float Trip August 9 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. $20.00
We’ll meet at the Learning Center then Board the bus for the Sand Pits
where we will put the canoes and kayaks in and explore the lakes. Bring a
sack lunch.
