We are finishing a week where testing has been pretty intense!
CogATs (Cognitive Abilities Test) have been given to all 3rd graders across the district, about 40% of 5th grade, and another 30% of 7th grade.
The CogAT test is a test that is useful for all teachers, not just gifted/talented specialists. The results are helpful for teachers to know what types of learners they have in their classrooms, and teachers can use that information to tailor their teaching accordingly.
In addition to Iowa Assessments, MAP tests, teacher recommendations, and observations made by the specialist at each building, the CogAT is used as another data point for determining eligibility for gifted/talented services. For more information regarding the GT program in Muscatine, please refer to our webpage on the district's site.
Results from the CogATs should be ready in 7-8 weeks.
