5th grade students have been working very hard on gathering information about loggerhead turtles, manatees, the Everglades National Park, water quality, and sanctuaries.
Unfortunately, we had an Internet outage last week, and a field trip, and a few other hiccups, that our original plan of trying to get our chosen projects done by October 4th or 5th seems pretty impossible at this point!
Let's be flexible and shoot for another completion date. There's no need to stay up until midnight the night before (after all, we're 5th graders, not college students!). Let's go back to the computer lab when it's available and gather some more data.
In the meantime, much of our upcoming class times will also be devoted to developing a theory as to what may have caused the decline in mussel population along the Shawnee River. It's been really interesting to listen to the discussions and debates over what may or may not have caused this problem.
The next step involves determining what, if anything, should or can be done about the situation and then putting all of our data into a presentation that we'll make at the board office with all of the Muscatine 5th grade G/T students on October 24th. More information will be coming home soon.
