Shadow Challenge!

In science today, we did our "Shadow Challenge."  We went outside at 8:30 am, 10:00 am (5S), 11:30 am (5C), and 2:15 pm. We drew chalk outlines around our shadows each time. As you can see above, the shadows at 8:30 am were long and facing west. The second observation, our shadows were much shorter and pointing more to the north. The last observation, our shadows were still short, but pointing to the northeast.

The question students are working on is, "Why and how does your shadow change throughout the day?"

Below, one of the challenges was to see if you could get your shadow to "disappear" into someone else's shadow. Looks like these two girls figured out how!
