We finished our first
unit and had the “big test” yesterday! In general, the students scored very
well! We are now moving on to double-digit
multiplication.
Today and tomorrow, our
classroom has become a “math laboratory.”
Many other educators will be in our room during our morning math class
to observe the lesson(s) and the students. They will be looking for how
students learn, and how the teacher (yikes!) facilitates learning through
specific strategies. This “lab” will happen again a few more times throughout
the year. It’s an opportunity for me and other educators to improve our
practice of teaching math. Because of this, I was gone this afternoon and will
be gone for most of the day on Friday (other than during the math lesson).
If you have Internet at
home, students can log onto their Khan Academy account through their Google
account (the mcsdonline.org address).
I’ve set up a learning path for each of them to follow, which has been
really beneficial in the short amount of time we’ve used it. Moby Max Fact Master is also a good site for
them to use to practice basic math facts.
In Science, we are
learning about the terrestrial planets, the Asteroid belt, the gas giant
planets, and more!
I look forward to
seeing many of you next week during conferences!
