Valentine's Party and more

I handed back the most recent Science Test last Wednesday, January 27 – if you haven’t seen it yet, you need to ask your student to show it to you. We are finishing up our unit on the Solar System by studying stars and constellations.  This week we’ve been investigating the constellations and stars.  In a week or two we’ll conclude with a unit test over all four investigations.  Students have done a nice job of using their science notebooks to take notes, working together in groups, and even following Steve Kelly, the astronaut living in the International Space Station!

We are still working with FRACTIONS! We had visitors last week in our morning math classes to see math learning in progress. I’m very proud of the students and how far they’ve come in making sense of problems, working through “stuck points,” and finding multiple pathways to find answers.  We are moving into multiplying decimal fractions.  For example,

2 x 0.1 = 0.2
0.2 x 0.1
0.2 x 0.01 = 0.002
1.5 x 0.2 = 0.3
2 x 1/10 = 2/10
2/10 x 1/10 = 2/100
2/10 x 1/100 = 2/1000
15/10 x 2/10 = 30/100 = 3/10
