Happy Halloween!
We are continuing our
work on multiplying multi-digit numbers. Exposure to this property, as well as
the commutative property, is foundational to algebra. Below are some samples of
what we’ve done in class regarding the different methods and ways of
demonstrating understanding.
Students should have a better handle on the standard algorithm after
this week, but you can help by encouraging them to practice. I am sending home a
practice worksheet – it is optional.
Students who complete it will have the their name in the drawing for a
prize from the prize bucket. Have your child bring it back by Tuesday, November
4th.
In science, I’ve described to the students an App that I downloaded on
my smart phone, called Sky Map. It’s easy and fun to use! Go outside on a clear
night, look up at the stars, then use the Sky Map to determine which planets
and constellations you are viewing. If you stargaze each season, your student
should be able to tell you why you’ll see different constellations throughout
the year.
As always, feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns!
