Holy Smokes! It’s been
12 weeks! We are 1/3 of the way through the year!
I sent home with the paper version of this post another
optional practice sheet for your child to complete and bring back to school by
Tuesday, November 11th. Completing the task will get his or her name
thrown into a drawing for a prize.
Resources we’ve been
using in our math class include Khan Academy, Moby Max, and Manga High. Ask your student to log into any of those
websites this weekend to show you what he/she has been working on.
We are still working
towards becoming fluent in multiplying multi-digit numbers using the standard
algorithm.
In science, I assigned the “Cube Project.” Please go click the link “Cube
Project” (in the upper left corner of this page) for the description, the rubric, and helpful websites. We are working
on this project in science class, but it will probably be necessary for
students to do some research at home between now and November 20th,
when the project is due. Students are researching a Solar System topic or a
scientist who’s made significant contributions to our knowledge of the Solar
System. They are taking notes and then each
will create a giant 6-sided-cube with different items per side about their
topic.
In my homeroom, I’ve been reading Johnny
Tremain aloud every day. This coincides with some of the rich history the
students are currently learning in Mrs. Curry’s social studies class.
As always, feel free to contact me with questions or concerns.
