Attached is your
conference appointment. Please send back the bottom portion with your student
by Monday, October 13th.
We finished our first
unit and had the “big test” today! In general, the students scored very
well! We are now moving on to double-digit
multiplication. Also attached is the Parent Guide to our next module in
math. (This was sent home with the conference card.)
If you have Internet at
home, students can log onto their Front Row account and practice becoming
“master mathematicians.” It has been really
beneficial in the short amount of time we’ve used it. They can practice the “adoptive” math lessons
at home, but at school we usually do the “assigned” practice levels.
In Science, we are
learning about the human digestive system, and students were able to create a
life size human poster earlier this week!
I look forward to
seeing many of you during conference week. Our grading system has changed this
year and it’s more focused on learning objectives. Also attached is a proficiency scale (this was also stapled to your conference card) that breaks
apart the 1, 2, 3, and 4’s. Our goal for
each student is to be proficient, so 3 is the goal! If your student is constantly showing 4’s,
then they are probably in the wrong grade and I’m not doing my job of actually
teaching them something new. During
conferences, there will be a presentation in the media center that will answer
any questions you have about our new reporting of student learning. I’m still new to it, too, so thanks for your
patience as we all work through it together!
As always, feel free to
contact me with questions or concerns.
